Registration Criteria for Registered Nurses

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Passed a degree, diploma or other nursing qualification allowing registration with NMC 
  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • A minimum of 6 month's experience working in a hospital/nursing home (completed your 6 month's preceptorship programme if applicable)

REGISTERED NURSES MUST:

  • Provide evidence of mandatory training updates (see below)
  • Complete an Enhanced AccessNI check with Balmoral Healthcare
  • Provide evidence of vaccinations (see below)

TRAINING AND TRUST REQUIREMENTS – THESE MUST BE CONFIRMED BY CERTIFICATE/COURSE CONTENT

  • Manual Handling – yearly
  • Fire Safety
  • CPR – yearly
  • Vulnerable Persons Training – 3 yearly
  • Infection Prevention and Control - yearly
  • HIV Awareness
  • Admin of IV Medications – 3 yearly
  • Admin of Medications – 3 yearly
  • Venepuncture and Cannulation
  • Hyponatremia 
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Haemovigilance/Right Patient, Right Blood 

TRAINING AND PRIVATE REQUIREMENTS (AND RQIA LEGISLATIVE REQUIREMENTS)

  • Fire Safety
  • Manual Handling - yearly
  • CPR – yearly
  • Infection Prevention and Control - yearly
  • Protection of Vulnerable Adults and Children – 3 yearly
  • First Aid
  • Admin of Medications – 3 yearly

VACCINATION REQUIREMENTS – MUST BE CONFIRMED BY PROOF OF VACCINATION OR TITRE CHECK TO CONFIRM IMMUNITY (NOT REQUIRED FOR PNH)

  • BCG (Tuberculosis)
  • Measles
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella (Chicken Pox)
  • If new to the Trust you must also have an antibody test for Hepatitis C and HIV 1 and 2

(Results must be from a UK based laboratory)
